Surely all jr. skulkers know about Priceline and their concept of naming your own price for airline travel. They have a new section on their web site where you can name your own price for long distance services. WebSkulker played around with this and made a couple of bids: $2.40 for 60 minutes of talk time (4 cents per minute) anywhere in the U.S. was rejected, but $6.00 for 120 minutes (5 cents per minute) was accepted. These rates are only valid from the one specific phone number that you tell them you will be calling from, and requires you to dial an access code and PIN when you make calls. The amount you specify is immediately billed to your credit card, and the minutes must be used within three months. If you haven't checked discount long distance prices lately, this Priceline deal might seem good. But you can do better at www.bigzoo.com, for example, which offers prepaid service at 3.9 cents per minute from any home phone to any number in the U.S. Bigzoo is not necessarily the best deal from payphones because they have a larger than normal payphone surcharge.
Jr. Skulker Amber mentioned this site that at the moment is only useful for people in the San Francisco area, but they may expand to other markets. This is one of those sites that even if you can't use it, it's worth looking at for ideas about the future. Buzzhits monitors some of the music radio stations in this area and logs all the songs they play. When you hear a song you like on one of these stations and want to know what it is called or any more information about it, go to the Buzzhits web site or call their toll free number. On the web site, choose the station and the approximate time you heard the song. On the phone, punch in the frequency of the station and it will play a few seconds of the last song played on this station and the name of the song. If that isn't the one, you can go back one song at a time to find it. When you get to what you want, Buzzhits will send you an email with details so you don't have to write anything down when you are out skulking.
WebSkulker doesn't much like computer games, but knows that most jr. skulkers do. He ran across this site that sells software (you can download a free 30 day demo) for designing and authoring 3D video games of your own, even if you don't know anything about programming. "3D GameStudio is a flexible authoring system for creating computer games without previous programming knowledge. It combines a newest generation 3D engine with a flexible scripting language, a 3D map and actor editor, and huge libraries of prefabricated objects. There are no restrictions - 1st person games, 3rd person games, adventures, role playing games, side scrollers, flight simulators, spaceship simulators, tank simulators, sports games, 3D pinball, racing games... and games never heard before. Though it's fun to use, GameStudio is no toy. And it's not only for computer games. You can use it to produce arbitrary interactive applications, presentations, virtual exhibitions, or 2D applications from card games to machinery control panels. The engine handles 3D as well as 2D objects, and you can easily design any user interface of your imagination. Creating 3D applications never was easier. Following the step-by-step tutorial, you'll create your first 3D action game in one afternoon!"
