Who skulked what on the day you were born?

WebSkulker has seen stores and mail-order catalogs that offer to sell you a newspaper or magazine from the day/month you were born, and pointing out that these make great birthday presents for others.  Now, through the magic of the Internet, you can get this for free.  The information, that is, not a real newspaper or magazine.

The first link above, suggested by Jr. Skulker Marvelena Quesada, asks you to type in a date, but then it mainly gives information about the year and quarter.  It shows top news headlines that quarter, top songs and movies that year, the U.S. president and vice president (note that for 1996 - 2000, the term is ambiguous because Bill Clinton's behavior made him a "vice" president, didn't it?), and some other interesting facts.

The second link asks for a month and day, but not year.  It then gives famous people with that birthday or date of death, historic events on that date in various years, and holidays in various cultures and religions.

The third link asks for a month and year, and gives famous births, deaths, and events for that month.

Skulking around Real Audio protection

Jr. Skulker David Massey asked Ms. Cat if she knew of any way to save streaming RealAudio files to your hard drive so you can listen to them again later.  The simplest answer is that some RealAudio streams are set to allow you to record them.  If you have RealPlayer Plus, the version you pay for, you can record streams simply by pressing the Record (red) button and entering a file name.  If you have the free basic RealPlayer, or want to record streams that don't authorize recording, then click on the link above for information about a shareware program called "Total Recorder".

Download and install Total Recorder, tell it to start recording, and then do anything that causes your PC to play sounds.  Total Recorder will record everything to a .wav file that you can save and listen to later.  You can start a RealAudio program or any other type of streaming media, play a video game, make an Internet-telephony call, or anything else whatsoever and Total Recorder will record everything that goes out your PC's loudspeakers.  Be sure to read the instructions because Total Recorder has a lot of options and features.

WebSkulker pays tribute

The first link above, Tribute to the Telephone, has "all sorts of telephone related web pages on the history of the telephone, technical information, research resources, human interest stories, clubs, pictures, sound files, links, etc."  The second link, Tribute to the Bell System, "was created as a memorial to and historical archive of the former Bell System of the USA and its minor interests in the Bell associated companies of Canada. Here you will find historical documents covering the corporate structure of the various companies that formed the Bell System and some technical information on Western Electric telephones and switching systems."

The third link describes a CD-ROM that you can buy for $10 which has archives of the two tribute sites along with a lot more material that would be too big to download, archives of other telephone-oriented sites,  and several utility programs.

These sites are run by the same Jr. Skulker David Massey who asked the question above about recording RealAudio.

Free games for jr. skulkers

Jr. Skulker Frog2000 suggested this site for their free PC games that you can download.  His favorite is Jump and Bump.  The motto of the site is:  "All our games are free. This is not out of kindness. We feel that our contribution to the world is violent games, available to anyone of any age, whenever, wherever and for no charge."

The Rancher's Wife

There once was a successful rancher who died and left everything to his devoted wife. She was determined to keep the ranch and make a go of it, but she knew very little about ranching, so she decided to place an ad in the newspaper for ranch hands.

Two men applied for the job... One was gay and the other a drunk. She thought long and hard about it, and when no one else applied, she decided to hire the gay guy, figuring it would be safer to have him around the house than the drunk.

He turned out to be a fantastic worker, worked long hard hours every day and knew a lot about ranching.

For weeks the two of them worked, and the ranch was doing really well. Then one day the rancher's wife said to the hired hand, "You have done a really good job and we've both done nothing but work for weeks. The ranch looks great, and I'm taking Saturday night off and going into town to kick up my heels and paint the town red, and I think you should do the same."

The hired hand agreed readily, and Saturday night each went to town. The rancher's wife had dinner and drinks with friends, and talked and joked and danced, and had a great time, getting home about midnight. The hired hand wasn't home yet, so she decided to wait up for him.

One o'clock and no hired hand yet. Two o'clock and no hired hand and she began to worry. At two-thirty in came the hired hand. The rancher's wife was sitting by the fireplace and called him over by her. "Now I'm the boss", she said, "and you have to do what I tell you, right?"

"Well... yes", he answered.

"Then unbutton my blouse and take it off", she said. He did as she asked.

"Now take off my boots." He did.

"Now take off my socks." He did.

"Now take off my skirt." He did.

"Now take off my bra." Again he did as she asked.

"Now take off my panties." And again he did what she told him.

Then she looked at him sternly and said, "Don't ever wear my clothes to town again."
