Fax4free is a service that (duuuuuh) lets you send faxes for free. You must first sign up for their service, and in the process they will give you a unique phone number somewhere in the U.S. (probably not local to you) that you can use to receive voice mail messages and faxes. Anything left on this number will be forwarded to your normal email address as an attachment. Now any time you want to send a fax, you can send it free through their service to any fax number in the U.S., Canada, Great Britain, and Australia. Here's how: login to their web site using the user name and password you registered, click on Sending and Receiving Faxes, click on Send a Free Fax, and you will get a big form. Fill in the names, countries, and phone numbers of multiple recipients, a subject, and optional text for the cover page. For the text of the fax you have two choices: compose the wording on the web page with the mini-word processor at the bottom of the page, or prepare a text file or word processor document on your personal computer and type in (or browse to find) the name of the saved document, and they will upload it to their site. The fax will be delivered promptly, just as though you sent it from your own machine. The only clue that it was sent through fax4free is that the bottom half of the fax header page will have an ad for their service.
http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/tac/doc/basic http://trademarks.uspto.gov/access/search-mark.html http://www.uspto.gov/teas/index.html The first link above is to the main trademark page of the U.S. Patent and Trademark office. Read the brochure on the second link if you are interested in basic information about trademarks. The third link is to their search engine. If you are curious to know whether anyone has trademarked a particular word or phrase -- possibly because you are thinking of starting a business by that name -- then type it into the search engine and see if it has been used. The fourth link above is an online application system that you can use to submit a trademark application. Many businesses never apply for trademark protection because they are too lazy to fill out the paperwork, so now you don't have any excuses because the online form isn't that hard. The price, however, is high enough that you won't want to grab names just for fun.
Jr. Skulker MediaHound suggested this site as another interesting one for government information. It sounds very familiar to WebSkulker because he has heard radio ads for years saying to write to some address in Pueblo, CO, for a catalog of government information for consumers, and this is no doubt the same agency. They have detailed online brochures on topics such as Cars, Children, Education, Employment, Federal Programs, Food, Health, Housing, Money, Small Business, Travel, Recalls, and Scams/Frauds.
